Crinkly Cloth Books

NURSERY TIMES

I created and reinvented the traditional cloth book and called it Nursery Times a crinkly cloth book designed to look like a little newspaper with six pages with simple rhyming text and cute illustrations. Each packed in its open envelope which packs flat to send in the post.

I teamed up with a fellow illustrator Nic and we collaborated on the idea. We built a brand and developed a range. Once we had 10 designs ready we sourced a reputable toy manufacturer in China and ordered our first mass production. 

​

We began selling the newspapers at The Frome Independent every month. It was slow at first but gradually built up. In February 2018, we received our first batch of stock so I began approaching independent retailers. Our first retailer was The Hunting Raven bookshop in Frome. Neither I nor Nic had any business experience so it was all a learning curve. 

​

We have never looked back. It's gone from strength to strength and I'm enjoying every bit of it. We now have a distributor to oversee our sales and over 100 stockists in the UK and overseas. There are over 50 titles in the range and we are also expanding into new products and offering personalisation. 

​

In 2021 we won the GOLD award for the best baby book for 0-2 years with Junior Design magazine. In 2022 we featured in the February, March and April edition of Vogue.
