When I was a child about 7 years old, I would spend hours drawing. My dad would give my his books of cartoons and pick one out a picture for me to copy using pencil and felt tip pens. Dad had shelves of books so I never knew what book I was going to get next. I loved the challenge and so did he.
I joined a childrens club called Professor Bullseye which featured in our local newspaper the Surrey Herald and often entered drawing and colouring competitions from which I won many prizes. I even
got my photo in the paper!
I also tried my hand at cake decorating and painted
a few murals for childrens rooms.
I left school with a GSCE grade A in art. As
a hobby I did some portraiture and made a bit
of pocket money from doing family and animal portraits in pencil, watercolour and pastels.
I soon found that I could do them quite speedily in
a couple of hours and got quite a few commissions.
I still do the odd portrait here and there and one day hope to find the time to do one of the complete family!
